Badland

These photos were taken in the nature reserve and water storage area called De Onlanden (Badlands) located on the border of Drenthe and Groningen. The name "De Onlanden" refers to earlier times when this area was one big peat swamp, really badland. Nobody could pass through and it was also unsuitable for agriculture. After the area was used as pasture land in the last century, it was given back to nature from the beginning of the 21st century. Now a swamp is forming and it is slowly becoming badland again.
