My viewpoint is that there does not exist one, objectively determinable reality that can further be captured by means of a photograph. Photos create worlds of their own.
Badland
The photographs in this series were taken in the nature reserve and water storage area called De Onlanden (Badlands) located on the border of Drenthe and Groningen. The name "De Onlanden" refers to earlier times when this area was one big peat swamp, really badland. Nobody could pass through and it was also unsuitable for agriculture. After the area was used as pasture land in the last century, it was given back to nature from the beginning of the 21st century. Now a swamp is forming again and it is slowly becoming badland again.
The Wood for the Trees & Water Mirror
Since no total image or overview of an area is displayed, in a strict sense my photographs cannot be defined as 'landscapes'. Also, there are no references to certain or specific places and although the images show fragments from reality, essentially, they are abstract.

The Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum in Groningen is showing a special art exhibition in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the sail and watersports association 'De Twee Provinciën', located at the borders of 'Het Paterswoldsemeer', a lake near Groningen. Seven artists among which are painters, photographers and a ceramic artist give their view on the Paterswoldsemeer.
